frequently asked questions
Does Dorian need a stage for his performance?
Not always. However, for groups 100 people and over, Dorian does recommend having a small stage or elevated platform. Minimum size should be 10 feet by 12 feet and there should be easy-access stairs at the front of the stage or platform. Most venues can provide a stage or small riser either themselves or through a rental company. If the stage is to be shared with other performers such as a band, special considerations will apply and need to be dicussed at time of booking.
What kind of room set up does Dorian need for the stage show?
Dorian will need the stage to be up against a wall having all of your guests seated in front of it as much as possible. Please choose a space that can comfortably seat all of your guests WITHOUT having them on the sides or behind the stage. Also watch out for those huge annoying beams right in the middle of some rooms. Please take into consideration your guests so they don’t get stuck behind one of them and miss out on the fun.
Do we need to provide audio/PA equipment?
Dorian can provide his own sound and mic for groups up to 500 +/-.
For more guest than 500, many venues have their own built in sound systems. Please check with the venue to see if they have a sound system as it’s usually best to use their system. In this case Dorian will need a cordless clip-on lapel mic (otherwise known as a wireless lavalier mic).
It is recommended you hire a professional audio/video company to take care of all your technical needs.
A key thing to have is a “mixer”. This allows you to have more than one mic plugged in at the same time (and different volume settings for each). Request a wireless handheld that you can use for speeches, announcements, introductions, etc. and a wireless lavalier for Dorian.
Strolling entertainment does not require a mic or sound equipment.
Does Dorian need special lighting?
No! However, it’s crucial to the success of the entertainment that there be adequate lighting. If it’s too dark, people will not be able to completely see and appreciate what they’re experiencing. Please make sure there is enough light for your guests to see the entertainment.
Can the performance take place while people are eating?
Yes, but it is not recommended. By the nature of the entertainment, your guests participate in the magic and are often asked to help out. This is sometimes difficult when people are eating. And also it’s hard to “watch closely” when you’re enjoying dinner. This applies to strolling and stage shows.
If our event runs a little late, can we start the performance late?
No. Due to Dorian’s busy performance schedule, all performances must begin (and more importantly) end on time. Many times the schedule doesn’t allow anytime for flexibility with this so your cooperation is appreciated. If you have to start the performance late, Dorian may be forced to reduce the duration of the performance to accommodate his schedule. Please give yourself some cushion when planning your event’s timeline. Be realistic on how long it may take to serve all of your guests so you are not forced to begin while they are still eating or have to shorten the show.
Will the show embarrass or offend anyone?
Dorian is proud to say that absolutely NO ONE is embarrassed in any way. Many horror stories have been told of how other entertainers have completely offended guests in the audience with off color jokes and remarks. Dorian’s show is completely G-Rated and never relies on entertaining people by making fun or laughing at people.
Does Dorian need a table?
No. He will bring everything he needs for the show.
Can strolling/walk-around magic be performed for all of our guests at once instead of small groups?
The nature of strolling/walk-around magic entertainment is to entertain small groups of people with their own personal 5 – 8 minute magic show. Strolling/walk-around magic is also a close-up style of magic. If you’re looking for entertainment that will entertain all of your guests as a whole, then you’ll want the stage/parlor show.
What about non-english speaking guests?
Although your guests may not understand every funny joke I make, they’ll still be thoroughly entertained and amazed with the magic.
What size audiences are appropriate?
Dorian can comfortably entertain up to 700 guests on a stage without being projected onto a large screen(s). Depending on the venue, more that 700 guests may require projection.
What forms of payments are accepted?
I accept cash, checks, PayPal and all major credit cards.
Is a deposit required?
Yes, a 50% initial investment and signed agreement is required to reserve a date. The event is not fully booked until these two things have been received.
Is there a guarantee?
All of Dorian’s performances are backed up by a full 100% money-back guarantee. If you and your guests are not thoroughly amazed and entertained, you don’t pay a thing for the show.
In the strolling magic package, is Dorian able to guarantee that he’ll make it around to all of the guests?
Well that really depends on the size of your group. If it’s less than 100, Dorian can usually make it around to everyone for sure. However, if you have 500 or more guests, that may not be possible. As Dorian mingles around and entertains people, other people are mingling too. So it is possible that not everyone would see the entertainment. If you do have a large group, you may consider hiring a small “army” of magicians. Contact Dorian to get help with this option.
